BASIC LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Developing leadership skills is essential in every NJROTC unit. A cadet who has good leadership will have a much more chance to be a leader to other cadets. However, for most people, excellent leadership is not an inborn talent and the unit would be wise to invest in training to build up this vital skill. That is the purpose of BLT; to train incoming cadets by spending four weeks developing their skills. Being under the mentoring of seniors cadets and the naval science instructors cadets have a higher chance of learning due to the vast range of teaching. This summer program is mainly for incoming freshmen and students in the high school who wish to join the unit. Cadets will learn basic drill, earn their khaki work uniform and learn to be leaders to those cadets who did not come to the summer program. Throughout the program cadets will also have fun with trips to parks, interacting classes and many other activities. Every Friday cadets will undergo a physical training test whose purpose is to get the cadets healthy. Cadets who graduate the summer program earn the Seaman Apprentice rank and the BLT ribbon; not to mention the chance of becoming NS1 commander, given to the NS1 who has shown the most leadership and drill skills
